A Different Way to
Discover Morocco

Honest, first-hand Morocco travel guides from a budget traveler who has returned almost every year since 2018.

My Story

Why I Created The Morocco Travel Guide

Hi, I’m Harry Taylor, the writer behind The Morocco Travel Guide. I’m based in New York, and Morocco was the first country I ever visited in Africa. I landed in Marrakech in 2018, and I’ve come back almost every year since, usually traveling solo and on a limited budget.

Over those trips I’ve wandered the Marrakech medina more times than I can count, stayed in hostels and budget riads, taken the Al Boraq high-speed train to Tangier, ridden regular trains from Rabat, spent time on the Atlantic coast in Essaouira and Agadir, slept in a desert camp in Merzouga, and explored the blue streets of Chefchaouen.

I started this site because I kept finding the same problem: most Morocco travel content is either too glossy or out of date. Prices are wrong, “day trips” turn out to be 10-hour drives, and nobody tells you what’s actually overrated. I wanted one place with honest, practical, up-to-date advice for independent and budget travelers.

How I Work

How I Research and Write Every Guide

Every guide on this site follows the same simple rules:

  • Real experience first. When I’ve done something myself, I say so, with the date and what I actually paid. You’ll see these in the “From experience” boxes.
  • Research is clearly labeled. When I haven’t personally done something, I say that too, and the guide is based on official sources and recent reviews.
  • Facts are checked against reliable sources, such as ONCF for trains, official attraction websites for entry fees, and the US State Department and UK Foreign Office for safety advice.
  • Prices are dated and updated. Morocco changes fast, so I include the month and year prices were checked, and I update guides when things change.
  • No fake reviews or invented stories. If something is overrated, expensive, or not worth your time, I’ll tell you.

Notes

What Matters to Us

Useful Over Fluffy

Every guide should give readers something they can actually use.

Honest Over Hype

Recommendations should be realistic and transparent. If a link ever earns me a commission, I say so clearly, and I only recommend things I would use myself. Read the full disclaimer.

Experience Over Checklists

Encourage travelers to explore rather than simply collect attractions.

Respect Over Tourism

Promote thoughtful travel and respect for Moroccan communities, culture, traditions, and environments.
